MANAGERS, YOUR EMPLOYEES' CAREER GROWTH IS NOT YOUR DECISION ALONE.

Supporting career development is part of good leadership. But here's something managers often forget:
Career growth must be a collaborative effort between the manager and the employee.
Just because you think someone would be excellent in a particular role doesn't mean they want that role.
And please, stop treating personality assessments, Ikigai exercises, and career tests as definitive career roadmaps.
You can love something and still not be good at it. You can be exceptionally good at something and absolutely hate doing it.
Those are two very different things.
As Alex Eala has expressed, you can give something your all and still not achieve the outcome you hoped for.
Effort matters. But effort alone doesn't guarantee success.
And that's precisely why managers shouldn't set employees up for failure by promoting, transferring, or assigning them to positions they haven't genuinely chosen.
What should managers do instead?
→ Ask employees what they actually want, not what you think they should want.
→ Discuss their strengths, limitations, interests, and career aspirations.
→ Offer training, mentoring, and opportunities to explore different roles.
→ Let them experience responsibilities before making permanent career decisions.
→ Be transparent about expectations, challenges, and performance requirements.
→ Respect their decision when they say, "That's not the direction I want."
Not everyone wants to become a manager.
Not every excellent individual contributor will become an excellent leader.
And not every promotion is progress.
Sometimes career growth means becoming better at what you already do, not climbing another rung on the corporate ladder.
At Aleph Talent Solutions Corporation, we believe career development should be intentional, realistic, and employee-centered.
A manager's responsibility is to guide, develop, support, and advocate.
But the employee must have the final say in their own career direction.
Because good leadership opens doors.
It doesn't push people through them.
